Points of Unity are a list of positions that motivate us as Team MCI and inform our responsibility towards the community. It explains what MCI stands for and our role in serving the community.

  1. We believe in nonviolent, grassroots organizing and community-building to liberate our communities and work toward the greater good.
  2. We strongly believe in the empowerment of Muslim women leaders as a means to guide our community to true liberation.
  3. We strongly believe in the promise of Muslim youth to uplift our community and create lasting change in the world.
  4. We believe in the value and potential of all people, regardless of ability, identity, or assessed economic contribution to society.
  5. Our communities need to heal, both as individuals and collectively, from the trauma of war and/or living in a post-9/11 society. Fear has no place in our homes or our hearts. Future generations must see their parents choose hope over despair and build a stronger community.
  6. As Muslims of color, we need to overcome our internalized oppression and educate one another about our people’s histories, struggles and hopes for the future.
  7. As white Muslims, we recognize the duality of being part of privileged racial identity and oppressed religious groups. We are allies to all communities of color, and our diverse Muslim community is no exception.
  8. We support the dismantling of the racist elements of our criminal justice system that lead to mass inequity, criminalization, and incarceration of low-income and marginalized communities.
  9. We believe in advancing toward a United States education system that does not perpetuate racial injustice through racial profiling and a school-to-prison pipeline.
  10. We support schools that produce culturally aware, intellectually enlightened, and strong members of society regardless of the obstacles brought on by the racism, sexism, and ableism that permeate these institutions.
  11. We believe that by removing the neoliberal and imperialist components of American foreign policy, there will be peace and sustainable security for all.
  12. We strive for a world unhindered by wars or lethal proliferation, and we stand against bloated military spending while the American people suffer from underfunded services.
  13. We believe in breaking misconceptions, sharing stories, and breaking bread with those who disagree with us.
